The Support Services Division is under the command of Captain Ray Mattas. Captain Mattas has been in law enforcement since 1989. He has served at the Ottawa Police Department and the South Hutchinson Police Department before coming to Emporia in 1993. Capt. Mattas has served with the Emporia Police Department for 28 years, beginning his career as a Patrolman in 1993, Sergeant in 2011, Lieutenant in 2017, and presently Captain.
Captain Mattas is the supervisor for the records division. While with the patrol division Capt. Mattas was a member of the SRT team and bicycle patrol. He was an instructor for defensive tactics, reality-based training and use of force along with being a field training officer. He has been involved with the Citizen's Academy since its foundation.
Captain Mattas and his wife are the proud parents of three adult children. "While I am not a native Emporian, I have made Emporia my home. I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Emporia for as long as I can."
